Today, Pokémon fans in the Netherlands could go to participating stores to receive the Pikachu Van Gogh promotional card with purchases of 30 euros. According to dozens of reports we have received, it was not difficult to get the card.


“Many stores were sold out at 12:00 or 1:00 p.m.,” a prominent store owner told us. “All [chain] stores offered a maximum of one promotion per customer. The big stores acted 100% clean.” He oversaw one of the largest WhatsApp groups where customers were searching for the card. “Most people are happy. Pokémon did a good job.”




The “honest” reseller we interviewed previously stated: “To be honest, this was a smooth launch. [The stores] were very strict. Most people who wanted the card could get it easily if they arrived on time.”

He went on to say, “Some stores ended [the promotion] 4/5/6 hours later. My store received 80 copies in the morning. I waited until the end and bought the last three copies for 30 euros each. Other resellers paid between 10 and 15 euros. The stores were saying, 'Yeah, everyone who wanted it got it.' So we're done with this.' The stores had plenty.”


As we previously reported, chain stores received a number of promotions depending on the size of their store. Intertoys and Media Markt, the largest retail chains, received an average of up to 150 copies each. The Primera and Bruna stores received 25, 50 or 75 copies. We also confirmed that one of the largest stores in Amsterdam received 650 copies.

According to two reports we have received, some stores may still request additional copies. Other stores that have not yet participated can register to host the giveaway by contacting Asmodee, the official distributor of the Pokémon TCG.

Previously, TPCi told hobby shops that they would only receive 10 copies of the card after pre-sale incidents. However, some hobby shops are now reporting that the decision has been reversed, apparently on a case-by-case basis.

One hobby store, Royal Cards, sent an email to its customers: “Good news. Today we heard that we will receive the promised [100] copies of the Pikachu Van Gogh promo. We'll probably do the promotion in the store next Friday. We will announce more details in our newsletter once we know.”
